Man pleads guilty to drug abuse, fined RM2,900

MIRI: A man was fined RM2,900 in default two months’ jail by the Magistrate’s Court here yesterday after he pleaded guilty to drug abuse.

Senior Assistant Registrar Md Syafique Md Hilmie also ordered Terence Lim Eng Yaw, 42, of Desa Indah 2 in Bandar Baru Permyjaya, to undergo supervisio­n for two years.

Lim was charged with consuming amphetamin­e and methamphet­amine under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or two years’ imprisonme­nt, or both, upon conviction.

The offence was committed at 1.05pm, last Oct 7, at the Narcotics Crime Investigat­ion Division office here.

In the same court, a 24-year- old man was released on a cash bail of RM2,000 under two local sureties after he pleaded not guilty to possessing a stolen watch.

Mohammad Shafiq Azwan Razaman, 24, from Bandar Baru Permyjaya here, was charged under Section 411 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum jail of five years or a fine, or both, upon conviction.

The accused was caught in possession of a stolen watch on March 21 at 1.30pm at a watch shop in Imperial Mall here.

Prosecutin­g officer ASP Mary Ong applied for a new date for case management as the accused had pleaded not guilty. Md Syafique allowed the applicatio­n and set April 9 for further mention.
