Dr Rundi leads delegation in Batang Ai hydro-dam visit
KUCHING: Minister of Utilities Dato Sri Dr Stephen Rundi Utom visited areas surrounding the Batang Ai hydroelectricity dam in Lubok Antu last weekend, to obtain feedback on the dam’s operations and management.
Sarawak Energy Bhd (SEB) chief operating officer Lu Yew Hung welcomed Dr Rundi’s entourage, which included assistant ministers Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi (Rural Electricity), Datuk Liwan Lagang ( Water Supply), and Malcolm Mussen Lamoh ( Industries and Investment) who is also Batang Ai assemblyman.
In a briefing, Lu said SEB’s corporate social responsibility (CSR) programme to supply electricity to benefit six longhouses with 320 residents from 79 households nearby, would cost the corporation some RM2 million.
These six longhouses are Rumah Manggat Menyang Taih, Rumah Kino Menyang Sedi, Rumah Griffin Nanga Jengin, Rumah Jangong Pala Taong, Rumah Ninting Nanga Jambu and Rumah Brown Nanga Stapang.
Meanwhile, SEB’s CSR programme at Rumah Andah Nanga Sumpa is ongoing, with the electricity supply works scheduled for completion this August. The RM1.8-million project would benefit 320 residents from 51 households.
The Batang Ai hydro- dam commenced operations on Aug 21, 1985. It is equipped with four turbines with the ability to generate 100MW worth of electricity.
