NGOs advised to manage government grants well to benefit people

KUCHING: Grassroots leaders and organisations must prove their capabilities in handling government linked programmes and at the same time be active in disseminating government policies.

According to Assistant Minister for Law, State-Federal Relations and Project Monitoring Sharifah Hasidah Sayeed Aman Ghazali, grants given to village security and development committees (JKKKs) and associations for example must be managed properly and spent for the benefit of the people.

She said this at the presentation of minor rural project grants for Samariang, at her service centre at Jalan Astana yesterday.

Sharifah Hasidah, who is also Samariang assemblywoman, said as grassroots leaders, they must be well informed on government policies and always work towards supporting the government’s effort.

“I am satisfied with how MRP was spent under my constituency and how important it is for the recipients to have proper report on how it was spent.

“Management wise, I am proud as there are several grant recipients who had won award for best managed mosques in the state several years ago,” she added.

Urging for a more integrated and well planned organisation, Sharifah Hasidah said grant recipients must ensure that they understand their social obligations and their programmes will benefit the people.

She said with the General Election just around the corner, the voters in Samariang must rally behind Barisan Nasional which had proven track records in developing Samariang into what it is today. A total of nine schools, 25 mosques and surau committees and 19 JKKKs received their MRP grant yesterday.
