-

MIRI: The Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu ( PBB) branches of Piasau, Pujut, Senadin and Lambir here have always been supportive of Sarawak United People’s Party ( SUPP) Miri in every election since 1981.

Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting, who is also SUPP secretary-general, said such good relations between both state Barisan Nasional (BN) component parties had existed since the era of past SUPP presidents – former deputy chief minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Dr George Chan, and former federal minister and Miri MP Tan Sri Peter Chin.

“SUPP is happy and confortable in its friendship with PBB.

“With the present stability upheld by BN Sarawak-led government, we should continue to see development because the people are living in peace and harmony, having excellent relationship with one another,” he spoke at the Women’s Day Celebration hosted by PBB Piasau Jaya sub-branch at the civic centre here yesterday – where political secretaries to chief minister Sarkawi Suhaili and Julani Mokhtar, PBB Piasau Jaya chairman Masni Amit and event organising chairperson Laila Mohamad were present.

Commenting on Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg’s recent remarks about PBB, SUPP, Parti Rakyat Sarawak (PRS) and Progressive Democratic Party ( PDP) would continue to look after Sarawak, he reiterated that ‘we, Sarawakians, would look after ourselves, not other people from outside’.

On the upcoming parliamentary election, which might be called in April or May, Ting said SUPP would be working very hard to win the Miri seat ‘ for the people of Miri’.

Meanwhile in his speech earlier, Masni highlighted that women play key roles in all fields, including economy, just as vital as those played by men.

Adding on, he also encouraged local womenfolk to explore the opportunities in business, including those under cottage industry, which would help generate extra incomes for their families.
