SUPP Women hosts community project for elderly in Bukit Assek

-

SIBU: The Women’s Section of SUPP Bukit Assek Branch hosted a community project to provide free eye screening and spectacles to the elderly held at Medan Mall last Friday.

A spokesperson said the project was organised in conjunction with the recent Women’s Day celebration where they hoped to share love and care in the community.

SUPP Bukit Assek Branch Youth chief Joseph Chieng declared open the community project.

Chieng praised members of the Women Section for their care towards those in need.

He said the project was meant to help members do charity, beginning with showing love for themselves and for their neighbours. This would help them to reach out and enrich their community.

He added that women were the pillar of support in their families.

“When you learn to love yourself, you will learn to love others as well. Charity begins at home and with you.”

Chieng called on SUPP women members to move out from social responsibilities towards a greater role in nation building.

He said they should also play a role politically, noting that women made up nearly two-thirds of the total voters in the country. They could be the decision makers in the coming general election.

Chieng, who is aspiring to be a BN candidate in the election, said if he were chosen to contest in Lanang constituency as a BN candidate and wins the seat, he would look into the benefits for children, increase allocations for single mothers and proposes to the government to build more child care centres to benefit especially working mothers.
