Pullman Miri committed to smart energy conservation, says hotel manager

MIRI: The Earth Hour movement has now become one of key global programmes since its introduction in Sydney, Australia more than a decade ago.

Usually held at the end of March every year, its followers are no longer confined to individuals – they also include various organisations – governmental and nongovernmental, as well as corporate – and the numbers continue to grow each year.

The Pullman Miri Waterfront observed Earth Hour on Saturday night, switching off its non- essential lights at around 8.30pm.

“Like other hotel brands under AccorHotels, Pullman is committed to ‘ Planet 21’ – a programme specially designed and championed by AccorHotels in tackling agenda linked with environmental sustainability and energy conservation, including that of food,” said hotel manager Jayson Chong, adding that his side had kicked off the promotion via the hotel’s official social media platforms in the first week of this month.

“Unlike past Earth Hour events, the event this year aims to engage larger participation not only from the staff, but also from the public,” he added.

The hotel’s lobby was illuminated by some 200 candles for the entire one hour on Saturday night.

Making Earth Hour even more special was the hotel’s ‘ Buy 1 Free 1’ dinner buffet promotion, which kicked off ahead of the Saturday event.

The menu comprised organicbased selections, exclusively prepared by executive chef Nelson Ray and his team.
