Residents Committee patrol teams help keep crime in check
MIRI: The Permy/Vista Perdana Residents Committee ( RC) patrol team will be set up this month to help with crime prevention in the resort city.
Pujut RC vice chairman Malateh Mahmud said the team members, consisting of residents from Permy and Vista Perdana, will assist the police with crime prevention.
“The patrol team plays a vital part by being the eyes and ears of the authorities. They would inform members of the residents committee which include the police about any suspicious activities through a WhatsApp group,” Malateh said at JKP Permy/Vista Perdana Zone crime awareness campaign at Permy Mall recently.
Members of Miri City Council ( MCC), Laku Management Sdn Bhd and Syarikat Sesco Berhad are also included in the WhatsApp group, Malateh revealed.
He said that the programme has received encouraging response, with about 200 residents volunteering to be members of the Permy/Vista Perdana RC.
“Our aim is to help the city council, the police and the authorities in Permy and Vista Perdana by looking after the drainage system and street lights, grass cutting, safety as well as garbage collection,” he added.
Malateh revealed that Miri RC, which was established in 2014, has spread its reach to several zones in Miri including Pujut.
“Pujut RC has shown excellent achievement over the past few years. We have managed to help the police in reducing the crime rate in the city.
“At the same time, services from the council have also seen improvement in Pujut,” said Malateh.
He said they are expanding the RC system to other zones including Taman Tunku, Piasau, Permy and Vista Perdana, to be followed by Senadin, Bakam and Luak,” he added.
