MIRI: People should utilise the internet facilities provided by the government to push Sarawak towards digital economy.

Without participation and support from the people, Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin said it would be difficult for the state government to achieve the objectives of its digital economic transformation programme.

“This programme, which calls for the people to go digital, would help accelerate the state’s economic development to become a high-income state by 2030,” he stated during the presentation of a government grant to the Federation of Miri Division Chinese Associations Sarawak at its premises in Krokop yesterday.

“In the current digital era, the advancement in communication gadgets has enabled the people to browse the internet via handphone or tabs at anywhere as long as there is internet connectivity.

“However, the people should be wise internet users by not wasting time on fake news and sharing information from unknown source with others.”

He said the government is currently organising various talks and programmes to familiarise the people with the digital transformation.

Lee added that he would make arrangements for a talk to members of Federation of Miri Division Chinese Associations economic Sarawak.

Later at the same function, Lee presented a government grant of RM100,000 from the chief minister to the federation’s president Hii Teck Yun. KUCHING: Sibu Hospital is looking for the nextofkin of an Iban woman, who is currently staying at its female psychiatric ward.
