NGO channels aid from donors to needy elderly man

-

KUCHING: Several donors have come to the aid of Lai Shoon Choi, 64, via local non- governmental organisation ( NGO) Hope Place Kuching after his plight was made public recently.

Left with one functioning hand after he was stuck by a car in 1964, Lai lives in a house with neither water nor electricity supply.

Moreover, the house cannot be accessed by car – it would take about 10 minutes for visitors to walk along a muddy path and cross two bamboo bridges to reach there.

Lai’s wife passed away a few months ago from cancer, and he has a son who is still in primary school.

The man does not own any form of transportation.

Moved by his story, these donors have provided him with a water tank, solar lighting, plastic table, school bag, pillows and some kitchen utensils.

According to Hope Place founder Kelvin Wan, these individuals do not want to be named.

Staff from the NGO delivered the goods along with their usual care package to Lai recently.

They also helped him install the water tank and solar lighting.
