APAO 2021 reaffirms Malaysia as a leader in healthcare sector

KUCHING: Malaysia was unanimousl­y chosen as the host for Asia Pacific Academy of Ophthalmol­ogy Congress (APAO) 2021 to be held at Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre on March 4 to 7, 2021.

Held annually,annually, the APAO Congress is the largest and most prest igious Ophthalmol­ogy conference in the Asia Pacific region.

Malaysia Convention & Exhibition Bureau (MyCEB), an agency under the Ministry of Tourism and Culture Malaysia joined by the Ma l ay s i an So c i e t y of Ophthalmol­ogist ( MSO) will be giventheho­nourtofurt­herpromote the science of ophthalmol­ogy in the region. A total of 4,500 delegates is expected to be present during the four- day congress following a collaborat­ion bid by MyCEB and MSO at Hong Kong on February 11, 2018. The congress attracts top eye doctors from all over the world to discuss the latest advancemen­ts in the field that will greatly benefit the medical section and the general public in Malaysia. “We are thri l led to form a strong partnershi­p with MSO to host this engaging and important congress, convening highlyrega­rded delegates comprising of ophthalmol­ogists, professors, researcher­s and healthcare practition­ers.

“APAO 2021 is projected to boost Malaysian economy by RM67.9 million in estimated economic impact and maximise Malaysia’s growth potential as a knowledge and creative economy,” MyCEB chief executive officer Datuk Zulkefli Sharif said.

“This congress provides an ideal platform for our local experts to gain valuable insights and share best practices from their internatio­nal counterpar­ts, while at the same time allows us to showcase Malaysia’s credibilit­y as a business events hub and an ideal tourism destinatio­n,” he further added.

Bringing together ophthalmol­ogists from around the world, APAO 2021 is committed in fostering co- operat ion between ophthalmol­ogical societies in different countries and collaborat­ing with other internat ional or regional organisati­ons with similar aims.
