Master tailors to reveal their secrets at seminar

-

KUCHING: Sarawak First Division Tailors Association will hold a one- day seminar on the upper ground floor of Wisma Saberkas starting 9.30am on March 31.

Seminar organising chairman Jackie Chong said the seminar aims to gather master tailors in the industry to share their ideas and views with other tailors and those interested in tailoring.

“This seminar aims to gather master tailors to reveal their secrets and technique - not just on coat making but also making cheongsam, kebaya, trousers and shirts,” he said in a press statement yesterday.

During the one- day seminar, participants will see how master tailors take measurement, sew and fit handmade attires.

The public, especially those interested in tailoring, are welcome to join the seminar where renowned tailor Ling Ee Ching will share on the art of making a perfectly fitting coat.

Female fashion enthusiasts can learn how to hand tailor a cheongsam - the technique to be shared by Hu Sook Kiew and Hu Huong Kiew who are experts in making the traditional Chinese attire. This is an opportunity not to be missed as it is seldom shared with the public.

Jackie also revealed that Esther Teo Siak Yee from Gorgeous Tailoring Institute will provide guidance on how to make the traditional Malay Kebaya.

“If you are interested to know how a perfect pair of shirt and trousers are measured, sewn and fitted, I will be demonstrating with Koh Dat Hung who will show how to make a pair of trousers,” he said.

Anyone interested in the technique, especially tailors who want to improve their knowledge, are welcome as are students since a few institutions of higher learning ( especially skills training) are setting up counters.

The association will unveil their collaboration with a skills training institution at the seminar.

This is the first time the association is organising such a technique enrichment seminar and exchange of ideas.
