MIRI: Team Rajawali emerged champions of the 23rd SMK Baru Miri annual sports meet for third consecutive year, which was held at the school’s field last Wednesday.

With 194 points, Rajawali beat Kenyalang who garnered 183 points while Helang finished third with 182 points and Cenderawasih fourth with 121 points.

Rajawali also won the best parade while Kenyalang and Cenderawasih were second and third respectively.

Malaysia Red Crescent team won the parade competition for the uniformed unit category, followed by police cadet and the civil defence cadet.

Meanwhile, the parent-teacher association chairperson Iskandar Abdul Rahim praised the school for their effort in organising the one- day sports meet at its recently refurbished field and stressed that sports can also be turned into a career.

“Today’s sport is not just a hobby or leisure activity, it is a healthy li festyle and an investment in health and economic profitability.

“Through a career in sport, one is able to generate lucrative income and at the same time improving health. It is possible that one day our children here, with teachers’ guidance, will be on the international track, flying our national flag.

“Thus we are on the right track in producing and unearthing sports talents,” he said during the closing of the sports meet last Wednesday.

The parade competition was judged by two personnel from Miri Civil Defence Force namely Sergeant Amdull Wahaf Sabi and Awie Mumin.

Also present was SMK Baru Miri principal Jerrah Pandin.
