China bans film to penalise ‘proindepen­dence’ actor

BEIJING: China has banned the movie Missing Johnny because the lead actor Lawrence Ko allegedly supports independen­ce for Taiwan.

Cinemas throughout China have removed the movie from their screening list after it had been screened for three days.

It has been reported that viewers had posted “incriminat­ing evidence” online accusing Ko of backing the independen­ce movement in Taiwan.

Previously, Ko had criticised former Kuomintang chairperso­n Wu Po-Hsiung for advocating the “one country, two systems” concept.
