China bans film to penalise ‘proindependence’ actor
BEIJING: China has banned the movie Missing Johnny because the lead actor Lawrence Ko allegedly supports independence for Taiwan.
Cinemas throughout China have removed the movie from their screening list after it had been screened for three days.
It has been reported that viewers had posted “incriminating evidence” online accusing Ko of backing the independence movement in Taiwan.
Previously, Ko had criticised former Kuomintang chairperson Wu Po-Hsiung for advocating the “one country, two systems” concept.

Prior to the blacklisting of Ko, Taiwanese actor Leon Dai had been dropped from the starring role in a China-made movie for the same alleged political ambitions.
