Successful ‘Jualan Sentuhan Rakyat’ in Bau

-

BAU: The three-hour ‘Jualan Sentuhan Rakyat’ programme organised by the Ministry of Domestic Trade, Co-operatives and Consumerism held for the second time at Bau Town yesterday saw a queue that was 4person deep even before the sale commenced.

When the public was finally allowed to enter the sales area at 10am, people jostled with one another for shopping baskets before grabbing crates of eggs and whole chickens offered at low prices.

A total of 30 household goods and grocery items were offered at lower than market price to reduce the financial burden of the people in the face of inflation. The items include laundry basket, storage containers, clothe hangers and controlled price items like sugar, 1kg cooking oil in packets and 1kg flour packets.

Tasik Biru assemblyman Dato Henry Harry Jinep officiated at the event by cutting the ribbon at the balloon arch of the entrance to the sales area.

“This programme is good especially for the people in the rural area. They can buy goods at cheap price and this will ease their burden,” he said.

He revealed that local youth entrepreneurs will be given the opportunity to hold two large carnivals with Bau Gawai Sales Carnival from April 28 to May 6 in Bau Town and Tasik Biru Festival to be held after that.

In Sarawak, the programme was kicked off on Jan 27 at three parliamentary areas- Lawas, Miri and Kanowit.

Thirty-nine such programmes have been held throughout Sarawak with total sales of RM1.9 million and total visitors of 107,500 up to March 29.

Bau district officer Anelia Siam was also at the event.
