SUPP launches election campaign, theme song for Lanang

-

SIBU: The Sarawak United People’s Party (SUPP) launched its election campaign ‘My Lanang My Home’ for the parliamentary seat yesterday.

The party also unveiled its theme song ‘We Are Different’.

SUPP Dudong chairman Wong Ching Yong told a press conference the theme song was chosen because SUPP, being a Sarawak party, is different from political parties that come from Peninsular Malaysia.

“In Sarawak, we always enjoy racial harmony and culture/ religious tolerance. We are different from West Malaysia.

“SUPP was formed in 1959 with the aim to safeguard the interests of the people of Sarawak.

“Thousands of its cadres and party members were arrested and jailed for years just because they defended the interests of the people of Sarawak,” he stated.

According to him, leaders of political parties from Peninsular Malaysia would not make such sacrifices.

He stressed that Sarawak political parties such as Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB) and SUPP are independent.

“We act and decide independently. We don’t have to be submissive to the West Malaysian parties and our Chief Minister (Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg) has publicly stated this many times.

“Sarawakians by nature are somehow very friendly, honest and simple. These characteristics are admired by many West Malaysians,” he added.

Wong said SUPP is confident it would represent Lanang during the upcoming parliamentary election.

On the candidate, he said the announcement would be made by SUPP Central.

SUPP Central’s theme for the election is ‘Stronger Sarawak, Better Nation’.
