Lee: Creative approaches to promote Miri necessary

-

MIRI: Miri City Council (MCC) and Miri Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI) have been urged to look at different approaches to promote Miri, as it requires a lot of initiative and creatively planned tourism package to attract more visitors.

Festivities such as the Chinese New Year with its warm and great ambience among the local community here could be one of the dates to offer travel packages, said Assistant Minister for Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin.

“It was quite happening especially weeks before the Chinese New Year. Dozens of activities including the CNY Bazaar which has been identified with Miri could be included in the travel itinerary,” said Lee.

He also suggested relevant authorities study and adopt the model practised by Singapore in decorating its city.

“If you could take a trip to Singapore during the festive seasons, the decorations at places like Orchard Road is far more delicate and very close to the hearts of everyone who enjoyed it.

“Not only does it represent the mood of the festivity, it goes to show how much effort was put in to beautify the area,” said Lee in his address at MCC-MCCCI CNY Bazaar appreciation luncheon held at a hotel here yesterday.

Among those present at the luncheon were Miri mayor Adam Yii; MCCCI’s first vice-chairman Lee Choon Seng; second vice-chairman Ling Chiong Sing; third vice-chairman Stephen Yong Ho Vui as well as all working committee members representing government and private bodies – Miri City Council (MCC); Miri Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MCCCI); Police Department; Public Works Department; Sarawak Energy Berhad; Malaysian Red Crescent Miri District (MRC); Miri Parking System Sdn Bhd; and Rela.
