Mirians want state BN manifesto to include setting up of IT university
MIRI: The state government is urged to include the setting up an Information Technology ( IT) university, create more youth entrepreneur development programmes and provide more funds for the agriculture sector in the Barisan Nasional ( BN) manifesto for Sarawak.
A veteran PBB member Othman Ismai said this is to boost the agriculture sector and transformation of Sarawak to digital economy.
“More money should be channelled to the agriculture sector so projects and programmes can be implemented faster while the IT university will help create more digital specialists among our younger generation,” he told The Borneo Post yesterday.
According to Othman, the Sarawak BN manifesto for the coming general election must take into account local interests and the needs of every ethnic group in the state.
As an example, the rural community would be left far behind in development if there is insufficient funds for the agriculture sector.
On IT university, he said it is necessary as the state is embracing Industrial Revolution 4.0 where IT skills are much needed.
Agreeing with the suggestion, UPP Pujut chairman Bruce Chai proposed that the state BN manifesto should include youth entrepreneurship development to encourage more young people to take up business, especially in the oil and gas industry.
He also wants more jobs to be created for the younger generation.
