Petronas, Nestle, JKJR launch ‘Stay Alert, Stay Hydrated’ campaign

KUALA LUMPUR: Petronas Dagangan Berhad ( PDB), Nestle and the Road Safety Department (JKJR) yesterday launched the ‘Stay Alert, Stay Hydrated’ road safety campaign to raise public awareness of the issue of road safety.

The campaign is especially aimed at educating the public on the danger of microsleeping – uncontrollable fleeting episode of sleep, mostly occurring when a sleepy person is trying to fight sleep and remain awake.

PDB managing director and chief executive officer, Datuk Mohd Ibrahimnuddin Mohd Yunus said at the campaign launch in Bangsar: “Dozing off behind the wheel is a common experience, especially for those who have to drive long hours.

“Through this campaign, we want to remind motorists to always stay alert and hydrated by offering a beverage combo comprising a can of Nescafe and a bottle of Mesra mineral water at only RM3.50.”

He said the initiative was in line with PDB’s commitment to promoting road safety. “Drivers who need a quick pitstop are always welcome to stop by any of our almost 800 Petronas stations/Mesra shops nationwide to rest and refresh themselves before they continue their journey,” he added.

According to a report by JKJR, the number of road accidents have increased over the years, from 200,000 cases in 1997 to over 500,000 cases in 2016. — Bernama
