KUCHING: KRFC Blackcatz are back at the top of the Kuching Rugby League after the fifth week of the inaugural competition organised by Kuching Division Rugby Association.

Despite suffering a 25-32 defeat at the hands of WORC at their ‘home’ ground at Song Kheng Hai Rugby Field last Saturday, the Blackcatz have a one- point lead over the previous week leaders Wolfpack. In the other two games played at 1Div Camp in Muara Tuang, Unimas Lycans romped to a 685 win over RMP Sarawak while Kenyalang Warriors thrashed UiTM 93- 5.

This Saturday, Blackcatz will be looking to beat seventh-placed Police in Muara Tuang to stretch their lead in the eight- team competition.

“Yes, we are going for another win and try to make more tries to earn the bonus points for our campaign in this league.

“No doubt some of our seniors are injured and will be out for several months but I believe our juniors are up to the task,” said Blackcatz team manager cum coach Yusop Shah Mokhsen.

Yusop, who is the president of Kuching Rugby Football Club ( KRFC), said the Blackcatz are gunning for the top three finish in the league and at least finish in the fourth place if they cannot make it to the top three.

Currently, WORC are third in the league standings with 18 points, followed by KWRC (16), Unimas Lycans (7), GB 13 (3), RMP Sarawak (3) and UiTM (2).

In this Saturday’s matches at Song Kheng Hai Rugby Field, GB13 will play Unimas Lycans at 2.30pm and WORC will face UiTM Hunters at 4.30pm while Kenyalang Warriors will take on Wolfpack at 4.30pm at 1Div Camp Muara Tuang.
