Anak Sarawak Awards to showcase journalistic excellence

-

KUCHING: The Sarawak Convention Bureau (SCB) is set to showcase journalistic excellence at the ninth Anak Sarawak Awards.

The Anak Sarawak Journalism Award will recognise members of the media who have made a difference to the business events sector in the state.

“Journalists are one of the greatest assets, especially in this dynamic business events. Be it in print or broadcasting, they hold crucial roles in delivering information that is credible, relevant and impactful – turning raw complex information into easily digestible knowledge. They are the voice that shapes how the sector is perceived,” said SCB chief operating officer Amelia Roziman in a press release yesterday.

“These impacts, resonating beyond tourism alone, are important to the development of Sarawak.”

Winners of the Business Events Journalism Excellence – Print Online and Business Events Journalism Excellence – Broadcast will receive a RM10,000 grant for marketing and training support, extensive profile exposure, and will be commemorated at the Business Events Tribal Meet 2018 in August.

TTG Asia Media Pte Ltd Malaysia/ Brunei editor S Puvaneswary, who won the eighth Anak Sarawak Journalism Award in 2016, explained why she focussed on the state’s business events sector.

“I saw the hard work put in to brand the destination. Many meeting planners and incentive houses had little idea of what the state had to offer. I believe this has changed,” said Puvaneswary.

“Business events organisers are excited to try a fresh destination, which they haven’t been to before. Sarawak has many stories to tell, and great storytellers always excite journalists, who are always on the lookout for exciting news.”

Puvaneswary encouraged fellow journalists to maximise the Anak Sarawak Awards platform, especially in publishing articles on Sarawak, as the destination carries weight and has its own unique charm.
