‘Incorporate safety aspects into road upgrades’

-

MIRI: Roads upgrades must take into consideration safety aspects of road users.

According to chairman of UPP Pujut branch Bruce Chai, such commitment is important in order to ensure the road is safe for use by the public.

“The people welcome any road upgrading works to improve the existing road networks in order to ease traffic congestion especially in urban areas.

“However, it is also important to put the people safety at the forefront during the implementation of roads upgrading works,” he stated to the media when met during the party’s Mobile Action Team ( M. A.T) programme at Piasau Utara Fish Market yesterday.

Chai pointed out during the M. A.T programme, the party received many feedbacks from the people who voiced out their safety concern on Piasau road which has been re- opened to road users after it was upgraded into two lanes.

“The road upgrading works should incorporate safety features including traffic light.”

Besides, he said there are no proper road lines to facilitate smooth flow of traffic.

“An accident nearly happened at the area in front of Miri Daily News office. Thus, I hope the relevant authority will relook into this matter immediately by putting road safety signage in the area.”

For Jee Foh main road and Bulatan road, he said the old road line was still visible and was causing confusion to the road users. He urged the Miri City Council ( MCC) to rectify the problem immediately to avoid unnecessary accidents particularly among road users who are not familiar with the area.
