PBB Youth holds first gathering in Puncak Borneo to drum up support
KUCHING: The election fever has been heating up in Puncak Borneo ever since the Parliament was dissolved on April 7.
On Sunday night, a ‘ Majlis Bipajak PBB Youth’ for Zone 3 was held at Kpg Seratau community hall, believed to be the first major event held in the constituency after the dissolution was announced.
The Zone 3 PBB youth comprises Opar, Tasik Biru, Serembu, Mambong, Tarat, Bukit Semuja, Kedup and Tebedu branches.
The gathering organised by the central PBB youth was officiated by Datuk Seri Dr James Dawos Mamit, the incumbent for Puncak Borneo, and was attended by PBB Youth chief Gerald Rentap Jabu and deputy chief Miro Simuh who are Layar and Serumbu assemblymen respectively, and Bukit Semuja assemblyman John Ilus.
The youth chiefs from the various Zone 3 branches and other component parties also attended the gathering.
Siang Prede, a private secretary to Dawos; Kuching deputy Resident Tuah Suni and Jeannoth Sinel (representing Tarat assemblyman Datuk Roland Sagah Wee Inn); whose names have cropped up as potential candidates to replace Dawos, were also present.
Dawos when addressing the gathering said he is still the candidate for the seat before the new candidate is announced.
He informed that he had met with Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak recently and was told that some incumbents who are stronger and popular, and have a bigger winning chance may be renominated by Najib for the coming general election.
Dawos urged PBB youth to ensure that Barisan Nasional ( BN) win the coming election.
“PBB Youth being a ‘warrior’ must carry out their duty and responsibility to ensure BN victory in the coming election” he said, adding that PBB Youth must also go to the ground to meet the people and understand their needs and aspirations.
Meanwhile, Rentap said the people had to reciprocate what BN government had done to develop the state, both socially and economically.
He added that the future of the state would be determined under BN government.
“For this coming election, the component parties ( BN) must work together to ensure victory,”
