KOTA SAMARAHAN: US ambassador Kamala Shirin Lakhdir visited Institute for Health and Community Medicine at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak ( Unimas) on Tuesday.

The purpose of her visit was to meet talented researchers at Unimas who had dedicated themselves to the investigation and diagnosis of viral diseases in Sarawak.

Kamala and her delegates were welcomed by the director of the institute, Professor Dr David Parera who briefed her on their research work at the institute.

“I came here to talk about collaboration between universities in the US and Unimas particularly on public health, medical research and what we are going to do in the future,” Kamala told reporters after she was briefed on the research work at the institute.

This was her third trip to Sarawak and she was happy to return. She noticed that the US ambassy, US government and Malaysian government had done a lot of things in education, public health, military to military, disaster response, humanitarian and economic collaboration.

“I look forward to visit Sarawak again in the future,” said Kamala, who was here on a three- day working visit.

Earlier in the day, she attended the International Sustainable Energy Summit 2018 at Pullman Hotel Kuching where she talked as a panelist on US experiences of renewal energy in that country.
