KUALA LUMPUR: The Ministry of International Trade and Industry (MITI) has received over 100 input on the National Industry 4.0 policy framework from relevant stakeholders.

Second MITI Minister Datuk Seri Ong Ka Chuan said the ministry was still finalising the draft after it was put online for a month to get feedback from stakeholders.

“The feedback we get are generally in areas of funding and infrastructure. We take all their input into consideration and we plan to launch the framework in June this year,” he told a media briefing after delivering his keynote address at the 2018 Next Gen Manufacturer Conference yesterday.

The policy outlines several broad strategies for Malaysia to embark on the journey that would transform the manufacturing industry landscape over the next decade, anchored on three shift factors to encourage Industry 4.0 adoption, namely people, process and technology.

He hopes that this policy would be able to leverage existing ini-

tiatives and further enhance it to ensure resources are managed efficiently. Most importantly, Ong said the adoption of industry 4.0 should be a bottom-up approach as industry players should take charge and push for rapid adoption while the government played its role as enabler.

Furthermore, he said many businesses and industry players in developed countries such as Germany, United States, France and Japan have leapt into the Industry 4.0 sphere, utilising the cyberphysical system holistically.

“Our Asean neighbours Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam and more recently Indonesia have also adopted Industry 4.0,” he added.

The one-day conference was jointly organised by Intel and Electrical & Electronics (E&E) Productivity Nexus.

The conference aimed to accelerate Industry 4.0 adoption amongst the E&E industry by bringing industry players, ecosystem providers and key government agencies together to discuss about the real things that matter to companies when starting the Industry 4.0 journey. — Bernama
