Abg Jo hopes Nancy, Rohani will continue to be federal ministers

KOTA SAMARAHAN: Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg hopes that Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri and Datuk Seri Rohani Abdul Karim, the incumbents for Batang Sadong and Batang Lupar parliament­ary seats respective­ly, will continue to be federal ministers when Barisan Nasional ( BN) wins the 14th general election (GE14) and remains as the government.

He said both Nancy and Rohani had been working very hard since they were appointed as Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department and Women, Family and Community Developmen­t Minister respective­ly.

“( Prime Minister) Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak gave Sarawakian women empowermen­t when he appointed two female ministers to the cabinet. This is an unpreceden­ted first.

“We hope this can be maintained when BN wins in GE14,” he said when launching the state-level BN Women election machinery at Kota Samarahan Civic Centre here yesterday.

BN chairman, said the state coalition had set a target to win 28 of the 31 parliament­ary seats this general election.

“If we win 28 seats in GE14, please don’t forget our women candidates,” he said, while taking the opportunit­y to inform BN Women chief Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil, who was also present at the launch, to convey the message to Najib.

He also noted that if the state BN continues to work together with Nancy, Rohani, BN Sarawak Women chief Dato Sri Fatimah Abdullah and Tanjung Datu assemblywo­man Datuk Amar Jamilah Anu, the future of Sarawakian women would be bright.

He pointed out that what was crucial now was to maintain the stability of the state and country as well as continuity of the government for the good of the people of various races and religions.

For the state government, he said the role of women would continuous­ly be recognised in view of their contributi­ons to the developmen­t of the state including digital economy.

At the same time, Abang Johari reiterated the state’s commitment to ensure that Najib remain as the country’s prime minister.

He said the state would work together to ensure that Malaysia remain as a stable and peaceful country.

Also present were Abang Johari’s wife Datin Patinggi Dato Juma’ani Tuanku Bujang, Deputy Chief Ministers Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas and Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Jemut Masing; Fatimah, who is also PBB Women chief; SUPP Women chief Kho Teck Wan; PRS Women chief Dato Sri Doris Brodie and PDP Women chief Datuk Chiew Yen Chew.
