More M’sian students pursuing tertiary study in Taiwan
SIBU: There is an increasing number of Malaysian students studying in Taiwan universities, according to the United Chinese Schools Committee Association of Malaysia ( Dong Zong) chairman Temenggong Dato Vincent Lau Lee Ming.
He said since the mutual recognition of degrees between Malaysia and Taiwan in 2012, the number of Malaysian students in Taiwan has registered several fold increase.
He attributed this to the Taiwanese higher education which he said is comprehensive and of high quality.
“Besides, the low tuition fees and the scholarships available for overseas Chinese students are all the additional factors that attract more and more Malaysian Chinese to study in Taiwan,” he said.
Lau was speaking at the opening of the Taiwan Higher Education Exhibition ( THEE) at SMK Methodist here yesterday afternoon.
The exhibition, which was organised by Malaysia Taiwan Alumni Association, attracted the participation of a total of 52 colleges and universities from Taiwan.
Lau said Malaysian students can easily embrace the Taiwanese culture while staying in Taiwan.
The environment and ambience for education is also favorable to them, he added.
“Hopefully, through the exhibition, the students as well as their parents will get to learn and know more about the information provided by the colleges and universities on education in Taiwan.”
Last year, he said, the Malaysian Taiwan Alumni Association held a similar exhibition in Kuala Lumpur where a total of 92 colleges and universities participated.
“The two- day exhibition then attracted over 5,000 visitors, which was a record,” he recalled.
Lau said the overwhelming response was indication that more and more students were showing interest to study in Taiwan.
On another matter, Lau said students these days were more concerned about getting employed after graduation.
“This is a big issue and everyone is concerned about it,” he added.
