-

MIRI: The state government needs more volunteers to complement its existing welfare development agenda to further boost community wellbeing.

Assistant Minister of Women, Family and Childhood Development Rosey Yunus said that support from the people as volunteers was vital to ensure the objectives set were achieved.

“It is true that the duty of the state government is to look after the people welfare.

“As such, we are glad for having a group of people such as the corporate sector, non-governmental organisations (NGO), associations and clubs for doing voluntary and charity works here.

“We need more volunteers especially welfare-oriented people to help the needy people,” she told reporters during her visit to Rh Selan and Rh Ngayum in Niah on Tuesday.

Rosey, who is also Bekenu assemblywoman, added that the volunteers would be the eyes and ears of the government since they were the ones always on the ground.

On the visit, she said it was held in conjunction with ‘Squad Kasih Sayang’ programme organised by Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu ( PBB) Bekenu at the longhouses

There, she presented food items to the needy people in the longhouses.

Penghulu Hai Min Wai was also present during the visit.
