Lee: Open bank accounts to ease BR1M distribution

-

MIRI: The 1Malaysia People’s Aid ( BR1M) recipients are urged to open bank accounts while those with one are to update their account numbers in order to speed up distribution of the assistance.

Assistant Minister of Tourism, Arts and Culture Datuk Lee Kim Shin said there are more than 2,500 BR1M recipients in Senadin constituency yet to open bank accounts, thus were given vouchers instead.

He said the move is to ensure that the recipients would not have to queue up to receive the financial aid.

He said this after presenting BR1M vouchers to recipients from Pujut area at SJK (C) Chung Hua Pujut yesterday.

There are 175 BR1M voucher recipients in Pujut while the rest have already received theirs through their bank accounts.

“However, we can only contact 120 of the recipients while the rest could not be contacted because they have moved while one has passed away.

“The vouchers will be available at SUPP Senadin Service Centre until end of this month. After that we will return the vouchers to the Inland Revenue Board if the recipients cannot be contacted and the vouchers remain uncollected,” Lee added.

Miri mayor Adam Yii, Lee’s special assistant Erick Chin and SJK (C) Chung Hua Pujut school board chairman Kapitan Chai Kuen Min were among those at the presentation ceremony.
