All set for Rotary ‘Gift of Sight’ Charity Run on Sunday
KUCHING: It is less than 48 hours to The Rotary Charity Run 2018 – Gift of Sight - which is set to take place early Sunday morning (April 15) at CityONE Megamall Kuching.
This is the second year in a row that the Rotary Club of Kuching Central is organizing this fundraising run.
Registered participants can collect their race packs on April 13-14 (today and Saturday) from 11am to 7pm at Level 1, CityONE Megamall Kuching (next to Hung Cheong).
The run will be flagged off at 6.30am from the main entrance of CityONE by Guest of Honour Dato Sri Nancy Shukri, Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, and Special Guest Datuk Lee Chuen Wan, Rotary International District 3310 Governor 2017-18.
Other VIPs include Mayor Dato James Chan of the Kuching South City Council, representatives of major sponsors and other dignitaries.
All participants will receive a uniquely designed dry fit “Ultron” t- shirt in their race pack, and a beautifully designed finisher medal upon completion of the Run.
Additionally, the top 30 runners from the 10km male and 10km female categories will be awarded prize money which amounts to RM8,000 in total.
Proceeds from the run will be directed towards prevention of blindness activities such as free cataract operations for low-income beneficiaries from rural areas of Sarawak, free eye screenings, and more.
The Gift of Sight project, which first began in 2008, is one of the signature projects of the Rotary Club of Kuching Central.
From November 2 016 to October 2017, a total of 235 cataract operations for lowincome benef iciaries were completed in various locations across Sarawak as part of this project, in collaboration with the Ophthalmology Department of the Health Ministry.
