Inaugural three-day state level NBOS Fiesta kicks off
SARIKEI: The three- day statelevel National Blue Ocean Strategy ( NBOS) Fiesta kicked off here yesterday.
Deputy State Secretary Datu Jaul Samion had the honour to do the soft opening, and despite the heavy downpour in the morning, there was already a sizable crowd, which grew in number later in the day.
Jaul, accompanied by other members of the organising committees then toured the about 100 booths set up by the various departments and agencies to ensure their preparedness in providing services to the people.
Visitors to the festa also have a chance to win prizes through lucky draws, with a Perodua Axia car as the grand prize and two Modenas motorcycles as the other main prizes. The draw will be held at the closing ceremony on April 15. Lucky draws are also conducted hourly during the threeday fiesta, offering interesting prizes.
There are also side events such as Sukan Rakyat, Pentas Rakyat and sports competition open to the public, and nightly stage shows featuring local recording artistes.
Jaul said they had invited around 7,000 people to the fiesta, but hoped to see bigger a turnout as the fiesta is meant for the public.
Various departments and agencies are expected to give talks on business opportunities while Unimas will give educational talks on Science, Technology, engineering and Mathematics ( STEM); SPM and STPM clinics for students, skilled courses for women, and transformation programme for grassroots leaders.
Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg has been invited to declare open the event, the first NBOS Fiesta in the state, at 10am today.
NBOS senior deputy director ( National Strategy Unit) Datuk Dr William Stevenson, State Federal Financial Officer Mohd Saiful Sungkih Abdullah, Sarikei Resident Mohd Junaidi Mohidin, deputy director of State Implementation and Monitoring Unit Felicia Tan, Deputy Resident Abang Mohd Porkan Abang Budiman, and Sarikei District Officer Badjuri Bidin were among those accompanying Jaul during the soft opening.
