Tzu Chi Miri to open third recycling centre at Lutong Baru

-

MIRI: Tzu Chi Taiwan Buddhist Foundation Miri Branch ( Tzu Chi Miri) will open its third recycling centre at Lutong Baru along Jalan Bario.

According to its spokesperson, Yee in a press release yesterday, the third recycling centre will begin its operation from April 17 (Monday) and is open to the public every Monday to Thursday from 8am to 11am and on the fourth Sunday of every month from 8am to 11am.

“As with the two existing recycling centres at Piasau Industrial Area and Krokop, the new centre will mainly cater to the residents at the northern part of Miri including Lutong, Tudan, Senadin and Kuala Baram. They no longer have to travel all the way to the town centre but go easily to the recycling centre located within 10 to 15 minutesdrive,” he said.

The centre is built with recycled material to show how things could be put to good use.

“Many of the warehouses are built with recyclable material. We are happy with the simple design that portrays the essence of recycling,” said Yee.

The tables, chairs, pails, shelves and sink are also made using recyclables donated by members of the public.

Even though the centre accepts unwanted items and recyclables, members of the public are reminded to sort the recyclables according to categories such as paper, plastic and glass, and best to have the items properly cleaned before sending them to the centre.

“We have encountered various issues including hygiene problem whereby people would just dump their waste at the centre. We had to use a lot of manpower and time to sort out and clean them before the items could be recycled,” he said.
