Swan City Snooker C’ship resumes on May 1

SIBU: The 4th leg of the Swan City Cup Snooker Championsh­ips will begin at Sibu Executive 3 Snooker Centre here on May 1.

Sibu Swan City Recreation Club chairman Mark Yeo, who is the competitio­n organiser, is expecting an overwhelmi­ng response for the two- week event.

In the 1st leg which was also held Executive 3, Sibu’s Isda Lau won the title after edging Sarawak Closed champion Ng Hong Man 3-2 in the five-match thriller.

Ng, however, bounced back to win both the 2nd and 3rd legs at Centre Point Snooker Centre and Southern Point Snooker Centre respective­ly.

He is eyeing to win his 3rd consecutiv­e title.

Prize money is RM1,000 (champion), RM500 (runnerup), RM250 (semi-finalists) and RM100 (quarter-finalists).

An additional carrot of RM300 is dangled for players who achieve the highest break with a minimum 50 points per cue.

The tournament will be played on a single knock- out basis.

Participat­ing players are awarded ranking points.

“With the ranking, the players know where they stand and, in the event we have bigger tournament­s, we know who to pick to represent us,” Yeo explained.

Femme, a company dealing with cosmetics and facial business, is the main sponsor of the competitio­n.

The 5th and final leg of the tournament will be held at Cueball Centre in July.
