KUCHING: Koperasi Koperkasa Sarawak Sdn Bhd is urged to work harder to manintain its position as the top cooperative in Malaysia.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, in giving this reminder, said maintaining the position is hard but nevertheless urged them to continue to be competitive in facing strong competition in doing business.

“Not only in terms of governance, you must also think of business direction in today’s highly competitive world. It is never easy, but also not impossible if you put your heads together towards a common goal,” he said during the Koperasi Koperkasa Sarawak’s Delegates Welfare Club thanks-giving dinner on Friday.

He also urged them to fully utilise the digital era and become a digital economy entrepreneur.

Fadillah also suggested the setting up of an incubator to train youths in the digital field in Sarawak by providing them the necessary facilities.

He cited as an example the Malaysian animation series ‘Upin Ipin’ which has became very popular not just in the country but also in Indonesia.

“We can explore the future with technology and find the right partner in the digital arena.”

On politics, he urged the people to continue supporting the Barisan Nasional government so that it will win big in the coming general election.

He said a bigger majority means bigger voice in the federal government when asking for funds to develop Sarawak.

Earlier, Koperkasa Sarawak chairman Sajali @ Ismail Ojek said they were in a collaboration to train members’ children in the field of cooperative.

Performance-wise, Koperkasa achieved RM9.4 million profit in 2017. It has two hotels, and plans to open its own bank in the future.

Sajali said there would be an annual delegates meeting on May 13.
