Embrace latest technology — Abg Johari
KUCHING: Bumiputera contractors are urged to embrace the latest technology in order to cope with the rapid progression in the building technology.
According to Chief Minister Datuk Patinggi Abang Johari Tun Openg, contractors now had the ability to create simulation of any building or plan, which would save time and money in the long run.
“Our local Bumiputera contractors need this. Equipment which can help them to progress faster means they can shorten the time to complete contracts awarded to them,” said Abang Johari when officiating at the Persatuan Kontraktor Melayu Malaysia ( PKMM) Sarawak branch dinner here last Saturday.
Abang Johari also reminded the Bumiputera contractors to have better equipments.

of thing must stop,” he said, adding that quality and timeliness were vital criteria for a contractor to achieve success.
The government, he added, would give a piling machine and painting machine for high- storey building to PKMM, which could be rented out to the members.
On another note, Abang Johari said the Rural Transformation Programme, Kuching Light Railway Transit ( LRT), State Water Grid and Rural Coastal Road would bring billions of ringgit worth of projects that need contractors to do them.
“These developments bring changes, and cost. This is where all the jobs come in and I want all our local Bumiputera contractors to be ready.”
He also lashed out at Tun Mahathir Mohammed for describing Sarawakians as slow, greedy and lazy.
“It was him who did not frequently come here to look at Sarawak’s development need. Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, on the other hand, has done a lot and has the highest number of visits to Sarawak with mega development projects given to the state.”
Abang Johari also pledged that the state government would continue to protect Bumiputera contractors, and would also continue to inject money for development projects to ensure the state achieve developed state status in 2030.
Later, he presented awards to several contractors under PKMM for excellent service.
Deputy Chief Minister Datuk Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hassan, Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, PKMM president Dato Mokhtar Samad and state PKMM chief Dato Ismail Suut were among those present at the dinner.
