Evaluate candidates before casting your votes this GE14, Fadillah tells voters

-

KUCHING: Voters should evaluate candidates contesting in their respective constituencies this 14th general election (GE14) to ensure that they make the right decision during polling day.

Works Minister Datuk Seri Fadillah Yusof, who gave this advice, said it was not unusual to see candidates make promises during the campaign, some of which might sound too good to be true.

“These candidates, who are usually from the opposition front, will make all sorts of promises. But more often than not, these promises will not be fulfilled by them,” he told reporters when met after attending a luncheon with the Malay Contractors Association of Malaysia ( PKMM) here yesterday.

He pointed out that there had been a lot of misleading news in the country lately and with GE14 approaching, it was highly likely that opposition candidates would try their best to gain votes from the people with their promises.

“But we don’t know whether they will keep to their promises once the election has ended. Look at Penang, which is governed by DAP or Selangor under PKR’s administration. They made a lot of promises but many of them have been broken.

“Unlike Barisan Nasional ( BN), we have always kept the people abreast with what we have implemented thus far,” he stressed.

On the recent announcement by PAS Sarawak that the party will be fielding Malaysia Pasti Management Institute Sarawak director Hamdan Sani in Petra Jaya, the incumbent said he welcomed anyone to contest against him in the parliamentary constituency which he has held for the last three terms.

“Malaysia is a democratic country and therefore anyone can stand in the election, whether they are from DAP, PKR, PAS and so on.

“The opposition has always claimed that we are not a democratic country which is incorrect. We are a democratic country which allows anyone to contest or campaign in the elections,” he remarked.

In the 13th general election, Fadillah comfortably defended his seat when he beat Ahmad Nazib Johari of PKR with a majority of 21,443 votes.
