‘Rela in Serian to play bigger role when Tebedu CIQ complex fully operational’

-

SERIAN: Human Resources Minister Dato Sri Richard Riot Jaem believes that People’s Volunteer Corps ( Rela) in Serian Division would play a bigger role once the upgraded Tebedu Customs and Immigration Quarantine Complex ( CIQ) becomes fully operational soon.

He said he has high regard for the Rela as they are committed and professional in their approach.

Riot, who is Rela deputy chief commisioner ( honourary), added that Serian Rela members had performed “excellently” during floods and in their assigned tasks with the police and immigrationrelated duties.

“I believe your role as the country’s second line of defense would be put to further test at the Tebedu CIQ,” Riot said at a dinner organised by Serian Rela on Saturday at the Chung Hua Hall here. Riot reminded all 17,150 Rela members who are registered voters to exercise their rights on May 9.

“I don’t need to tell you where you should place your votes because I know where your loyalty lies,” he said to thunderous applause from the more than 1,000 uniformed diners.

Earlier, state Rela director Rini Tupong said in Sarawak, Serian had the most number of Rela members at 25,000. Rini thanked Riot, saying: “Your commitment to our members is the reason why we are able to come in full uniform tonight.”

“On polling day, Rela members will reciprocate your kindness and commitment to them. That I can assure you,” Rini said to loud applause.
