Rep urges Sarawakians to give full support, trust to government
MIRI: Sarawakians are a lucky lot because the government is concerned and always helping the multiracial community preserve their colourful cultures to be passed on from one generation to next.
According to Samalaju assemblyman Majang Renggi, the government, however, would not be able to play this role if the people do not give their full support and trust.
“Therefore, I urge the people here to always support the BN government to ensure that all government objectives, especially in terms of development, can continuously be implemented for the benefit of the people, as well as for their future generation,” he said.
He said this in his address at the Miri Gawai Dayak Bazaar 2018 pre-launching dinner held at Boulevard Restaurant on Saturday.
Majang was representing Deputy Chief Minister Tan Sri Datuk Amar Dr James Masing at the dinner, organised by Gagasan Anak Dayak Sarawak (GADS) to raise fund as well as promote the Miri Gawai Dayak Bazaar 2018 which will be held at Emart Riam from May 2 to 26.
Also present at the dinner were Senator Dato’ Sri Doris Sophia Brodie, GADS president Vicky Gulin Shandom and the bazaar organising chairman Ganda Anyum.
Majang praised the efforts by GADS in organising the annual bazaar which not only showcases Dayak food and culture, but also serves as a platform for the community to get together.
The annual bazaar provides an avenue for the local Dayak community to venture into business and make extra income for the coming Gawai Dayak celebration. It also allows those patronising the event to have a taste of various traditional Dayak delicacies and cuisines thus introducing Dayak culture and food to the other communities.
At the function, Majang announced a RM20,000 grant from Masing for GADS and another RM10,000 from himself, making the total RM30,000.
Meanwhile, the Miri Gawai Dayak Bazaar 2018 will take place at the parking area of Emart Riam and feature not only sale of Dayak food, but also Dayak handicraft and merchandise.
Various activities will be held during the bazaar including folk games, stage performances, ‘ ngajat’ competitions for adults and children, sape musical show, Gawai Dayak Idol competition, band fest showcase and performances by Iban artistes.
The highlight of the bazaar will be the Gawai Dayak Parade on May 26 which will be participated by members of the Dayak community throughout Miri.
The event to mark the closing of the bazaar will feature parade participants in their traditional attires.
