Calling entries for Miri Gawai 2018 ethnic beauty pageant

MIRI: This year’s division-level ‘Dayung Sangon’, ‘Kumang Iban’, ‘Keligit Orang Ulu’ and ‘ Keling/ Belawan Gawai 2018’ pageant will be held this May 19, and the organiser is calling for entries from those eligible to take part.

For the Dayung Sangon, Kumang Iban and Keligit Orang Ulu categories, participan­ts must be single women aged between 18 and 25, while the Keling/ Belawan category is open to single men aged between 18 and 30.

Divorced or single parents are not eligible to participat­e.

Meanwhile, Dayak Muslims who wish to take part in the pageants must obtain written permission from the state Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) as well as their parents or legal guardians.

Participan­ts must be fluent in the dialect of the ethnic that they are representi­ng.

The height requiremen­t is at least 150cm, or five feet.

Those from mixed parentage, who may have Chinese, Indian or Western names, are required to include a copy of their birth certificat­es alongside their registrati­on forms for verificati­on purposes.

Completed entry forms with the RM30 registrati­on fee per contestant, copies of the participan­ts’ Mykad and birth certificat­es (for those from mixed parentage) as well as two passport-sized photos must reach the organiser at the office of Dayak Associatio­n Miri ( DAM) on Lot 1088-1089, third floor of Rumah Persatuan Dayak Miri at Jalan Merpati – by 4.30pm on May 4.

Confi rmed participan­ts will take part in the eliminatio­n round this May 12 at Bintang Megamall here.

Only six fi nalists will be selected from each category during the eliminatio­n round for the grand finale, which will take place during the division-level Gawai Dayak Dinner 2018 at Meritz Hotel this May 19.

Winners of the Dayung Sangon, Kumang Iban and Keligit Orang Ulu categories will each take home RM1,200, while the fi rst and second runner-up will receive RM900 and RM700, respective­ly.

All top three fi nalists will also receive trophies, bouquets, hampers and certificat­es. The other fi nalists will not leave the pageant empty-handed – each of them will get RM400 cash, a hamper and a certificat­e as consolatio­n.

For the Keling Iban/ Belawan Orang Ulu category, the winners will receive RM1,000 each, while the fi rst and second runner-up will take home RM800 and RM700, respective­ly. All top three fi nalists will also receive trophies.
