‘Selangor BN candidates will not contest in party election’

-

SHAH ALAM: Umno candidates representing the Selangor Barisan Nasional ( BN) in the 14th general election ( GE14) must sign an undertaking that they will not contest in the upcoming party election.

Selangor Umno liaison committee chairman Tan Sri Noh Omar said the move was to convince voters that the candidates to be given the mandate as elected representatives were specially selected to focus on serving the people in their respective areas.

Noh, who is also Selangor BN chairman, said those nominated would be signing the pledge when the Selangor BN candidates are announced today.

“Whoever wins (GE14) will not be contesting in the party election because we want to prove that we work for the people.

“What’s important, as an elected representative, we work for the people as a team.”

He said this to reporters after a meeting with Selangor Residents’ Representative Committees (JPP) and Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) here yesterday.

On the announcement of candidates today, Noh said the list would feature several new faces including six women representatives.

“All the candidates are eligible to contest. They may not be perfect but they are winnable and likeable,” he said. — Bernama
