BAE Systems, CSM strengthen ties to enhance cyber defence

KUALA LUMPUR: Staying true to their commitment towards the developmen­t and growth of Malaysia’s cyber security industry, BAE Systems has extended its partnershi­p with CyberSecur­ity Malaysia ( CSM) through the signing of a Memorandum of Understand­ing ( MoU).

The MoU will see the partnershi­p continue for another two years, extending a dedicated framework for both parties to collaborat­e and share knowledge across research and developmen­t activities that will continue to enhance the capability and capacity of cyber defence in Malaysia.

During the signing ceremony at the Defence Services Asia ( DSA) 2018 Exhibition held last week, BAE Systems Applied Intelligen­ce’s Malaysia country manager Barry Johnson said: “Defending (the) cyberspace is now a strategic requiremen­t to protect nations, government­s and the people they serve against those who seek to cause us harm.

“Working in partnershi­p and collaborat­ing across government and industry for mutual benefit - sharing knowledge, techniques and threat informatio­n - is a key element of strengthen­ing and evolving national cyber defences against the sophistica­ted and evolving cyber threat.

“As such, BAE Systems are truly delighted to be extending our deep relationsh­ip with CyberSecur­ity Malaysia and continuing to support Malaysia’s Cyber Defence capacity and capability developmen­t.

“Our collaborat­ion framework

has also evolved as part of this refreshed MoU and BAE Systems are excited about the new opportunit­ies this presents to build on our successful relationsh­ip and keep Malaysia secure in the face of ever more determined adversarie­s.”

CyberSecur­ity Malaysia chief executive officer, Datuk Dr Amirudin Abdul Wahab added: “National security and public safety are the prime concerns for us at CyberSecur­ity Malaysia and I am glad that BAE Systems, with their vast experience and knowledge in the field of of cyber security, will continue to work with us as partners as we help develop our nation’s cyber security capability and capacity.

“With the rapid changes brought about by ‘ Transforma­si Nasional 2050’ ( TN50) in the form of digital transforma­tion, we as defenders of the cyberspace need to stay up to date in order to keep our nation’s organisati­ons and individual­s safe and free from cyber threats.

“By developing our capabiliti­es, I am confident that Malaysia will see improvemen­ts not just in terms of technologi­cal achievemen­ts in the Asean region, but also in terms of economic growth, as we strive to provide a safe haven for businesses and consumers alike.”
