‘Accept selected candidates with open heart’

JOHOR BAHRU: Umno and other Barisan Nasional (BN) component party members were yesterday told to accept the candidates named for the 14th general election with an open heart and to not sabotage them to ensure victory for the coalition.

Johor Bahru Umno division leader Tan Sri Shahrir Abd Samad said those whose were not named as candidates should not be disappoint­ed, but to continue with the BN’s struggle in safeguardi­ng the people’s interests and welfare.

“What should be displayed by BN now is discipline because as a party that has long been establishe­d and matured, we should have discipline.

“This is a general election. There will not be any perfect candidates, but we have the best among the chosen ones.

“There is no point in sulking because the most important is to ensure victory for BN,” he

told reporters at the opening of a Johor Bahru City Foundation kindergart­en and presentati­on of kindergart­en fee subsidy for those in the B40 group at the Pangsapuri Desa Dato Hajjah Hasnah here yesterday.

Shahrir, who is the incumbent Johor Bahru member of Parliament, said all BN members and supporters should work together to win the people’s votes for the coalition.

“My role now as the Johor Bahru election director is to ensure all the three BN candidates for the parliament seat and two state seats win in the general election,” he said.

From his observatio­n, he said, there was strong acceptance among the people for BN in Johor Bahru.
