Yii sees no problem in being both MP and Miri mayor

-

MIRI: There should not be any problem for Adam Yii to continue his service as a mayor, even if he were to be picked by the state Barisan Nasional ( BN) to contest the seat in the coming parliamentary election.

In this regard, the Sarawak United People’s Party ( SUPP) publicity and information secretary refers the late Robert Lau Hoi Chew as a clear example – Lau was chairman of Sibu Municipal Council when he won the Sibu parliamentary seat during the 1990 election.

“There is no need for me to relinquish my mayor’s post, should I be selected as the BN candidate for Miri and win it in the GE14 (14th general election).

“I can still continue to serve as Miri Mayor as long as there’s greenlight from my party,” he told reporters after chairing a full council meeting at Miri City Council ( MCC)’s conference room yesterday.

Yii gave his assurance to the people that he would have no problem in holding these ‘ two important posts’.

On GE14, he viewed the mission of reclaiming the Miri seat back from Parti Keadilan Rakyat ( PKR) as ‘an important task in making Miri greater in terms of development’.

“We can bring federal services and funding to improve Miri. That is the role of an MP because an MP acts as the bridge between the state and the federal government.”

Yii is the third mayor of the city, after Datuk Wee Han Wen and Datuk Lawrence Lai.

His mayorship term commenced on July 1, 2016.

It is said that SUPP’s top leadership have nominated Yii and Piasau assemblyman Datuk Sebastian Ting to the BN as its potential candidates for Miri seat.
