Don’t threaten community leaders, Dayak politicians told
SIBU: Dayak politicians should avoid threatening their own community leaders who refused to do their bidding with termination of their position or non-renewal of their appointments.
“This is more so when these community leaders do not share their political leanings or affiliation,” said former deputy chief minister Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Alfred Jabu at a meet-the-people gathering at Rumah Segan Jubin in Engkamop near Pakan yesterday.
“Do not be quick to make such threats when they do not follow your bidding. This is more so when they are already staunch supporters of the BN,” Jabu, who is science advisor to the state government, stressed.
He said such threats could result in the politicians not given the support when it matters most, like in a general election.
“This can lead to your downfall. This has happened before and politicians should learn from it,” he advised.
On the coming general election, Jabu appealed to voters in Julau and Pakan districts to vote for the BN candidate.
“Julau and Pakan have been included in the Bukit Sadok Agropolitan area.
“Do not jeopardise your opportunity to participate in this huge scale land development aimed at making the Betong and Sarikei divisions the state’s premier food basket area” he reminded.
He said the project could take a back step if the opposition won the seat.
“This project will have tremendous impact on the efforts to upgrade your standard of living and income,” he added.
