KAPIT: The Chinese community here has been called on to support Datuk Alexander Nanta Linggi who has been re-nominated to defend the Kapit seat for Barisan Nasional ( BN) in this 14th general election.

Bukit Goram assemblyman Jefferson Jamit Unyat made this call at the installation ceremony of Kapit Chinese Women Association 14th office bearers and Members Banquet Night on Sunday at the Meligai Hotel.

The function was attended by about 150 members and invited guests.

Among them were Deputy Kapit Resident Galong Luang, heads of government departments and community leaders.

“Every vote counts and I appeal to all voters to vote for Nanta to ensure a big win. When the government sees that we are strong supporters of BN, it will reciprocate by delivering more developments to Kapit,” said Jamit.

At the same time, he told the Chinese community not to be emotional and be influenced by outside issues.

“Let us concentrate on local issues, the wellbeing of our hometown Kapit and our state to prosper further. Don’t gamble with our future, a good leader is someone who looks after the people and delivers their needs,” he said.

On why they should vote for Nanta, he said Nanta had a good track record in delivering progress and development besides being people- centric.

“Nanta not only allocates physical projects and funds for Chinese associations, he also safeguards our business community by making sure they can sustain their business,” Jamit added.

He also said they should vote Nanta for uninterrupted development.

He reminded Chinese community leaders and leaders of Chinese associations to tell the young generation and the elders of the importance of making sure BN win the Kapit parliamentary seat.

Commenting on the Kapit Chinese Women Association, Jamit lauded the NGO for doing a good job and suggested that they work closely with other NGOs to reach out to more people.
