-

MIRI: Parti Islam Se- Malaysia ( PAS) has confirmed Zulaihi Bakar, 49, as its candidate for Sibuti in this May 9 parliamentary election.

This was announced by PAS president Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang at PAS Sarawak information office in Matang Jaya, Kuching last Saturday.

PAS is the fi rst political party that has confi rmed its candidate for Sibuti parliamentary seat.

Zulaihi, who hails from Tanjung Belipat, is a farming entrepreneur. He was a farm supervisor from 2001 to 2005, and later moved up to become an assistant farm manager from 2007 to 2009.

It is stated that PAS’ struggles for the polls would be to build a prosperous Sibuti through education, welfare and community programmes.

Meanwhile, the announcement of candidates by the state Barisan Nasional ( BN) today would end the speculation surrounding Sibuti incumbent Datuk Ahmad Lai Bujang who, according to many quarters, would not be contesting.

When contacted, Ahmad Lai did not say anything much apart from him leaving the decision to the BN leadership.

He won the Sibuti seat in 2013 with a majority of 6,066, defeating PAS candidate Muhamad Zaid Tandang.

Ahmad Lai polled 13,348 votes, while Muhamad Zaid had only 7,282 votes.

Still on Sibuti, Parti Keadilan Rakyat ( PKR) is also likely to place a candidate there – said to be a local.
