SARIKEI: SMK St Anthony is striving to improve on its excellent performance from time to time.

Throwing the challenge, its principal Vincent Liong said, the excellent achievement achieved by the school in academics thus far was not a reason to rest on their laurels.

He pledged to achieve Model School status or Sekolah Contoh by 2020 as they move forward in line with Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) aspiration.

“Though it means a tall order, we have to take it as a challenge and try to achieve it,” he said, during the school’s SPM 2017 Incentive presentation ceremony and official opening for its English Centre yesterday.

In that respect, Liong has set a target of 2.9 School Average Grade (GPS) and 100 percent overall passing rate for this year’s Sijil Pelajaran Malaysia ( SPM) examination.

That is to improve the achievement recorded in last year’s SPM where the school recorded GPS 3.33, he explained, adding, with that achievement, the school was ranked among the top ten in the state and second best among rural schools. He disclosed that two of its students, Rolland Chieng Ung Lung and Vivian Teng Xiu Wen scored straight 10A+in the SPM examination last year.

On the school’s English Centre, LiongthankedRepokassemblyman Dato Sri Huang Tiong Sii for his strong support which enabled them to realise it in a short time.

“On behalf of the schoo,l I would like to thank Dato Sri Huang for his contributions and support which enabled us to realise the centre within two months,” Liong said.

Huang, in his brief speech commended Liong and his team of dedicated teachers for the school’s impressive achievement in PT3, SPM and STPM examinations.

Considering the great importance of education to improve the livelihood of the people, he promised to accord priority in assisting all schools in his capacity as an elected representative of the area.
