Nangka tournament­s are for all Sibu folk

SIBU: Nangka Sports, Culture, Social and Unity Secretaria­t will introduce challenge trophies for four games, starting this July.

According to Assistant Minister for Education and Technologi­cal Research Dr Annuar Rapaee, they will introduce the Nangka Futsal Challenge Trophy, Nangka 7- aside Challenge Trophy (football), Nangka Basketball Challenge Trophy and Nangka Bowling Challenge Trophy.

“We use the term challenge because we will have ( tournament­s) every month. For example, Futsal Challenge Trophy will be held every first week of the month for two days over the weekend.

“Then, the following week, it will be 7-a- side Challenge Trophy (soccer), and after that, Nangka Basketball Challenge Trophy and so on,” Dr Annuar, who is also Assistant Minister of Housing and Public Health, explained.

He told reporters this after officiatin­g at the close of the Nangka Constituen­cy bumiputera badminton competitio­n at MMB here, Sunday.

The new format will run for next five months until November to be continued in the following year.

“From July until November this year, we wi l l have f ive tournament­s of each challenge trophy,” he added.

Dr Annuar said although this is Nangka chal lenge trophy – tournament­s for all the four games are open to all Sibu folk.

Among those present was Nangka Sports, Culture, Social and Unity Secretaria­t chairman Jimmy De Rozario.
