KCC win opens up threehorse race for final berth

-

KUCHING: Kuching Cricket Club ( KCC) registered their second win in the Kuching Cricket League beating Unimas by six runs at the SK Tasudda Cricket Ground last Sunday.

While the win in their final league game would not have meant much for KCC, the result suddenly threw the race to qualify for the final wide open.

Sarawak Gladiators have already booked their place in the final.

But Sukma, Swinburne and Unimas now all have the chance to qualify for the final depending on their final league game.

If Sukma beat Unimas this week, they will meet Sarawak Gladiators in the final.

If Unimas defeat Sukma, the fate of the second finalist will be decided by the net run rate ( NRR).

KCC’s Sunday win was set up by an all-round bowling effort, with their wrist-spinners allowing the others to have their say too.

Young pacer Fattah mixed it up well to keep Unimas batting line up in check.

They have not been helped by the form of senior players like Kishon and Shakib and their bowling.

Losing three wickets in the power play while chasing in 30 overs does not often lead to winning and Unimas found that out on Sunday.

Yadisha, Shakib and Tarek perished early. Ramith and Sakib resurrected their innnings but the damage was done.

Rana kept the hopes alive with a quick cameo but that was all it was.

Dave and Fattah were excellent at the death while Peter and Kenny kept the lid in the middle overs.

Peter and Fattah were stars with the bat for KCC.
