Negeri Sembilan has attracted over RM27 billion in investment­s since 2004

SEREMBAN: Negeri Sembilan has successful­ly attracted foreign and domestic investment­s amounting to RM27.42 billion from 2004 to 2017, according to the state government’s portal.

The investment­s came from 489 projects approved by the state government, it said in a report.

Of the total, 265 projects, or 58 per cent, were new projects while the remaining 224 were for business expansion.

“Foreign investors were the biggest contributo­rs to investment­s in the state, accounting for 71 per cent, or RM18.13 billion, while domestic investors contribute­d RM9.29 billion.

“South Korea was the largest investor with investment­s of RM5 billion, followed by Japan ( RM1.8 billion), China ( RM1.2 billion), Singapore (RM1.1 billion) and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) (RM1.0 billion),” said the report.

The five main industry sectors were electrical and electronic­s involving investment­s of RM4.9 billion and the creation of 7,730 jobs, followed by non- metallic minerals ( RM3.4 billion, 3,555 jobs) and chemicals and chemical products (RM2.8 billion, 2,843 jobs).

Other sectors were textiles and textile products involving investment­s of RM2.5 billion and providing 7,050 job opportunit­ies, and automotive and transport equipment involving investment­s of RM2.5 billion and offering 4,482 job opportunit­ies.

The report said among the largest investors in the state were Coca-Cola Bottlers (M) Sdn Bhd and Messier Bugatti Dowty (M) Sdn Bhd, Asia’s first carbon brake production plant.

Other investors included Safran from France, the world’s leading player in producing aircraft landing products and braking systems, and Kayaku Safety Systems (M) Sdn Bhd from Japan, which is among the world’s main suppliers of car airbag inflators and micro gas generators in seatbelts,

Among the companies that are expected to invest in Negeri Sembilan this year or 2019 are Ajinomoto Bhd from Japan, Novugen Pharma (M) Sdn Bhd from UAE, Auric Pacific from Singapore, Sapura Industrial Bhd from Malaysia and Pan Asian Dairies (M) Sdn Bhd from UAE. — Bernama
