KAPIT: The Election Commission ( EC) will deploy huge manpower and related assets to Hulu Rajang to ensure smooth running of nomination day on April 28, and polling on May 9.

It is learnt that early voting on May 5 will take place at Belaga District police station, involving 66 voters.

The deployment consists of 921 EC workers and police personnel, 156 four-wheel drive vehicles, 111 longboats, 19 helicopters and one express boat.

It is also pointed out that the venue for nomination of candidates will be the Kapit Civic Centre.

This was explained by election returning officer ( RO) Galong Luang during a briefing held at the conference room in Bletih State Complex here yesterday.

The meeting also discussed information about polling stations and certain logistic issues, including the routes to reach this town.

“We also talked about the need to update all the relevant authorities on the movement of teams as it ( polls) involves three state constituencies – Baleh, Belaga and Murum,” said Galong.

Baleh, Belaga and Murum are under Hulu Rajang parliamentary constituency.

Assistant ROs Wee Teck Min, Juan Ubit, Douglas Pungga, Belayong Pok and Seaver Miot, together with administrative officers from Kapit Resident’s Office and Bukit Mabong District Office – Irene Merang, Kelvin Ligong and Grace Anyie – and Kapit Information officer Judy Hendry were among the 30 attendees at the meeting.
